Case Study #4 - Project Re-Scoping and Strategic Realignment

• A high-stakes, high-visibility cross-functional project in a large Pharma company was suffering from creep and a lack of direction. This led to a major milestone miss, and the stakeholders’ function was starting to suffer reputational damage. Additionally, there was confusion about responsibilities between the SMEs, champions and stakeholders. This seriously hampered understanding of timelines, deadlines, and dependencies.
• Identified scope creep, stakeholder disengagement and missed milestone risk threatening project success and the insights function’s reputation.
• Conducted re-baselining and gap analysis with project leadership to clarify scope, inter-functional deliverable sequencing, dependencies and critical path priorities.
• Produced a structured audit and prioritisation roadmap, recommending a leaner scope and additional resource allocation.
• Conducted stakeholder mapping, categorising stakeholders by decision authority, influence level and their ability for technical contribution to restore accountability and decision clarity.
• Secured additional resourcing based on documented workload analysis, protected the function’s reputation, streamlined delivery and re-established sponsor confidence.
